The first Storm wind farm is operational!

After a successful test run of 240 hours, the Storm wind farm in Wachtebeke is now completely operational! Each year, the two wind turbines together produce 12,000 MWh, representing the annual consumption of 3,700 families.

176 residents of Wachtebeke, Sint-Kruis-Winkel, Mendonk and Desteldonk participate in this wind farm through the cooperative Storm CVBA.

Wind farm Wachtebeke

Operational

The Storm wind farm in Wachtebeke is part of Storm's first repowering project. The original turbines in Wachtebeke were replaced in 2023 with two larger and more efficient models. The wind farm is now operating at full capacity, producing approximately 30,632 MWh per year. This is enough renewable energy to power over 8,700 households annually. For comparison, the two original wind turbines had a capacity of 2.5 MW and generated electricity for about 3,700 households per year.
