The construction of the concrete towers.

Wind farm Haven Gent
28 Aug 2016

There are several types of wind turbine towers. At Storm we use two types. The type we use in this wind farm is a concrete tower of 80 meters, with a steel segment on top. The concrete tower is built with loose concrete rings which are assembled on the building site itself. The steel segment is placed on top with the crane.

The other type has a full steel tower. The towers of these turbines consist of four steel segments. These segments are stacked.

This particular wind farm can be found on the sites of ArcelorMittal in the Sea Port of Ghent (in the province of East Flanders). The wind farm has been operational since early 2017 and produces renewable energy that matches the annual use of about 8.200 families. 248 residents of Wachtebeke, Zelzate, Mendonk, Desteldonk, Evergem and Sint-Kruis-Winkel have already signed up for the Storm CV cooperative.
